05 archives: fall/winter couture 08
The new romanticism movement is the driving force of Clemente's vision for fall. Taking a step away from her past culturally inspired collections, this one of a kind series focuses on embellished opulence meeting the pure and paired down. "It's all about vintage interpreted charm and inventiveness.” Her signature style has a creative vintage flare that's both artistically controlled and rich in contrasts. Mixing preciousness and comfort for the feeling of light loose body-skimming shapes, MCD fall 08 draws inspiration from glamorous looks of the 20's 40s and 80's. Her choice in contrasting materials boasts a brave maximalist attitude that is signature. Clemente's use of feathers, maribou boas, silk floral appliqués and oversized fixtures are reminiscent of the days of pop and kitsch. The colour palate opts for emotion with its variety of white semiprecious stones and fabrics. Classic white pearls, Agate, Jade, Coral, and Howlite are paired against rustic casted brass to contrast the falls prevailing dark tones surrounding the season.
