epoch spring 2010
This spring, MCD revisits a line and signature look that is invigorated by costuming indigenous to the Philippines. Design is inspired by indigenous pagan and muslim tribes and interpreted within a modern context. Maranaw icons against an ifugao inspired colour palate present a pleasing clash of values and blend of cultural unity. Tribal rhythms are balanced with innovative use of natural materials and resources. This line of accessories unveils a refined bold look, heightened by a particular fascination with tribal ritual converging textural elements of these locations. Previously more fluid forms have been replaced by bolder shapes. This clean design aesthetic is contrasted by a focus on process and textures evoking a grounded sense of stability.

Scales, orchid, wood, feather and leaf icons and woven fabric patterns are paired with mesh chains and a mixture of metallic embellishments. Traditionally muted red, yellows, greens have been replaced by the bold and synthetic.
